SALA’s purpose is to encourage interaction and collective thinking within the region's luxury industry, something we hope to accomplish by providing fresh industry intelligence while creating regular opportunities for informed debate, networking and collaboration between our members through a series of events.

We are proud to have the support of Sanlam Private Investments as our core sponsor in 2011.

Members enjoy the incredible hospitality of our venue sponsor, Orient-Express, that has offered SALA members gracious access to the use of the Mount Nelson Hotel, Cape Town and The Westcliff, Johannesburg.

SALA has recently worked with Luxury Branding to publish a report, 'South Africa: a New Frontier for Luxury Brands', with the aim of providing SALA members with valuable strategic insight into an otherwise neglected market segment. In 2011 we will be looking at 'The Golden Continent & The Ethics of Luxury' and how HNW's are committed to creating a change in the world and how luxury and premium lifestyle businesses operating in the emerging market of South Africa are being sensitive to the local environment. The 'Ethics of Luxury' will bring together two dimensions that, at first glance, may not sit comfortably together with the very nature of luxury being ‘hedonistic’ and in some ways contrary to the ‘puritan’ nature of ethics. A shift has occurred and increasingly businesses operating in the luxury and premium lifestyle industry have had to justify their “ethos” in market as consumers and businesses have realized the need to be conscious of the world in which they operate and how they impact their environment.

We look forward to working more closely with you and if you have any queries do not hesitate to contact us.

SALA Wealth Summit

7th March 2012
Sandton Sun

A two day summit with leading speakers in the luxury industry and wealth management space. This innovative conference is designed to explore the state of wealth in the South African market and to identify where lie the obstacles and the opportunities. By bringing together heads of private wealth management firms alongside leaders from the luxury industry we hope to overcome the lack of formal research into this market and share key insights and knowledge. The summit aims to look at the various dimensions shaping the generation and utilization of wealth so as to illuminate how people manage their wealth as well as how they spend it. Perhaps more than ever, in these economically challenging times, one needs to seek out and find those extremely elusive pockets of wealth and as the competition increases, find more considered ways to engage with valued clients in the future. According to the Credit Suisse 2011 Global Wealth Report there are 71,000 dollar millionaires in South Africa. The SALA Wealth Summit addresses a need for companies marketing to them, to understand how to generate, sustain and build connections with the wealth segment.
