Sanlam Private Investments was formed in 1999 under the brand Gensec Private Clients. In 2001 it acquired the South African private client businesses of ABN Amro, formerly known as Huysamer Stals and, in 2002, Merrill Lynch Private Clients, formerly known as Smith Borkum Hare. In line with SIM, it re-branded to Sanlam Private Investments in 2002.

Today, we’re a specialised investment house that manages assets for affluent private individuals, cultural organisations, charitable institutions and similar entities with investable assets of more than R1 million. We have the necessary capabilities and systems to provide a wide range of investment services, including domestic and offshore investment portfolios, stockbroking and allied services. We’re a member of both the JSE Securities Exchange and Safex.

We currently have R55 billion worth of assets under management. Whilst this places us in the big league of investment managers, we never lose touch with our clients’ specific demands and investment objectives.

Like our institutional counterpart, Sanlam Investment Management – a large investment house with about R293 billion in assets under management – we’re part of the Sanlam investment cluster. It stands to reason that our clients benefit from the investment skills, depth of systems and research practices of the other businesses that form part of this cluster.
